Bioactieve veenbescomponenten voorkomen dat bacteriën zich kunnen aanhechten en waardoor ze worden weggespoeld bij het plassen. Voldoende drinken en goed uitplassen zijn zeer belangrijk.
Maar recent werd aangetoond dat cranberry-concentraten ook de biofilm kunnen aantasten, en dus de ‘beveiliging’ van de microben. En dat deze niet alleen multiresistente E. coli (frequentste oorzaak van blaasontstekingen) aanpakken, maar ook de schimmel Candida albicans.
